Redman Design was appointed by Maidstone Museum to deliver the new Lives in Our Landscape gallery as a design and build contract.
The new gallery tells the story of what would become the borough of Maidstone, the Medway Valley and its environs from its earliest hominid inhabitation to the end of the sixteenth century.

The gallery is divided into a series of time zones that will take visitors from the early stone age to the medieval period. Objects or groupings are interpreted in ways that allow visitors to understand them and what they represent and to highlight how people in the past share much in common with people today.

Interactive, tactile and sensory exhibits make the gallery fun and engaging for families. They encourage exploration and discovery. These exhibits will reflect the stories and collections associated with each time zone.

This gallery helps visitors to imagine how a person lived thousands of years ago. The skeleton and film of the Eastry woman, buried nearly 1,500 years ago is a great example of this. They tell her story and give insight into her life through scientific analysis of her teeth and bones.

In addition to design of the gallery and management of our contractors, Redman Design undertook the manufacture of bespoke object mounts and worked with Maidstone Museum to install nearly 1,000 objects.
