In 2021 Redman Design were appointed by St Helens Borough Council to devlop proposals for the use of the historic Gamble building in the heart of the town. Redman Design were appointed to work with Colchester & Ipswich Museum Service and Mica Architects to develop a new vision for Ipswich Museum, a much loved local institution with notable collections in an historic building. Our approach was to increase the range of material on display, to retain the feel of important historical spaces, to build on what is already popular with local visitors and to bring standards of interpretation into the 21st century. The project was successful in securing NLHF Round One funding in 2019.
Working with the client team at Hull Maritime Museum in 2016, Redman Design developed an RIBA 2 design scheme for the museum, the Arctic Corsair and other heritage sites as part of the Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City project. We developed an interpretive plan that spanned the entire museum as well as linking to discrete visitor offers at other sites. The project was successful in securing HLF Round One funding in 2017.
In 2017 Redman Design were commissioned by National Museum Northern Ireland to create concept design proposals for a redeveloped front-of-house visitor offer at the Ulster American Folk Museum. Our design report identified current challenges and proposed a range of measures to address these, including new gallery and exhibition spaces, a clearer visitor journey, improved thematic structure and the introduction of mobile technology to support live interpretation across the site.
